Beachfront Living in Brazil
Deciding when, how, and where to retire are questions that are putting a burden on more and more people. Especially with the stock market collapse in the past year that has taken a toll and wiped out 10 years of savings from many people’s accounts, it can seem impossible to be able to retire and keep a decent standard of living. But, this is only because most people don’t look hard enough.
If you go beyond the borders of America and Europe, there are plenty of places to be found where you can stretch your dollar and living along pristine tropical beaches for a mere fraction of what if would cost you in the United States. One of these countries is Brazil.
Brazil is the largest country in South America and is bigger than the United States if you don’t count Alaska. It’s the world’s fifth largest country and has over 5000 miles of tropical coastline that looks out onto the Atlantic. Most of the country lies in tropical areas and the waters off Brazil’s coast are warm, clear, and clean. On top of this, the economy in the country is booming, it is energy efficient, makes huge use out of renewable sources of power, particularly ethanol solutions from sugar cane, and makes much of its own products. Brazil is perhaps the strongest of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) group of emerging economies. In Brazil, you can find first class infrastructure and health care, but still pay prices that are more comparable to the third world.
If you want to use Brazil as a retirement area or second home, one of the best locations in the country if Fortaleza on the north coast. The area is well known to many Europeans, but most Americans don’t know about it. Fortaleza actually lies closer to Portugal than it does to New York City. Infrastructure improvements in the area, and the entire country to prepare for the 2012 Olympics, have caused tourism in this city to jump by over twenty-five percent in the last three years. The beaches here are long, pristine, clean, white sand beaches and the town has great shopping, restaurants, and a buzzing nightlife. The town even has an old, historic colonial center and a non-tourist downtown business district so you can get away from the beach should the need arise. Despite the booming economy and great surroundings, you can still get some beachfront lots in quieter areas for under twenty thousand dollars and downtown condo units with great views can go for around $150,000, fractions of what you would pay in the United States.
With a low cost of living, very low property prices, a great climate, and a stable, growing economy, Brazil is a great choice for a place to retire or own a second home. You will be able to live at a higher standard of living for cheaper than you would be able to had you tried to acquire property in similar seaside locations in the US.
