There are plenty of rivers where salmon can be found, so having a rod and a fishing license is a perfect excuse to head off if you’ve got all the fencing done and the sheep moved.

This area of New Zealand includes child safe beaches. The water may be a little brisk, but there are plenty of hot days to enjoy the water over the summer season. Caroline Bay is particularly lovely, and hosts an annual festival that is fun for the whole family.

There are a range of schools surrounding the main centre that are still open, though many opt to send their children into town for their schooling. These schools have a good reputation nationally.
